  • Real Estate Associate

GARRISON EXCLUSIVE/UNPOSTED:  Top-Tier Commercial Real Estate Practice Seeks Experienced Associate (DC)

We are assisting a prominent AmLaw firm in adding a standout associate with at least four years’ experience to the DC office’s highly regarded commercial real estate practice. The work is top-notch, the partners are low key and collegial (some have worked together for nearly twenty years), and for the right candidate the firm will consider a signing bonus (on top of a full end-of-year bonus). If you are looking to take your practice to the next level and be part of an established team with room to grow and advance for years to come, then this opportunity could be for you.

The partner leading this search shared more about this practice, some of which is highlighted below:

The Work/Practice:  This is an established and built out real estate practice with about a dozen attorneys who sit in DC.  The work is truly nationwide in scope:

    • The work is “akin to a New York commercial real estate practice”
    • You’d be representing private equity funds, investors and pension advisers in joint ventures, purchases and sales, and other sophisticated real estate transactions as well as some of the related financing
    • The practice is entirely self-sustaining – meaning, has its own clients and runs point on its own transactions (unlike practices that may be dependent on corporate M&A)

What It Feels Like To Practice Here:  Expectations are high, but the practice (and firm) are known as a “really nice place to work.”  The group does not lose associates to other firms. If and when attorneys do leave, it is typically to go in-house (or even start their own firm). The group is pleasantly busy and is hiring to meet demand.

Hours/Compensation/In-Office:  Associates average around 2,000 hours annually (with 1:1 credit for pro bono). Cravath scale. Three days per week in-office at present.
