A highly respected, mission-driven investment firm in Washington, DC seeks an experienced Investments & Transactional Counsel to join its in-house legal team. This is a unique opportunity to work at the intersection of sophisticated real estate finance and impact investing.
About the Role
Reporting to the General Counsel, this attorney will play a key role across the full lifecycle of complex investment transactions, including origination, structuring, execution, and post-closing matters. The role offers broad exposure to multifamily finance, mortgage-backed securities, and affordable housing initiatives.
Key Responsibilities
- Advise on real estate finance transactions, including direct loans, equity bridge loans, and agency/GSE investments
- Draft and negotiate transaction documents and investment terms
- Partner with internal teams to evaluate deals and resolve issues
- Manage outside counsel on transactions
- Support post-closing matters, including amendments, waivers, and defaults
- Participate in Investment Committee processes
- Assist with New Markets Tax Credit transactions and related compliance
- Support contracts and other legal initiatives
Qualifications
- 10+ years of multifamily real estate finance experience (law firm and/or in-house)
- Strong experience negotiating and closing complex transactions
- Familiarity with agency/secondary mortgage markets and CMBS
- Deep understanding of lender-borrower dynamics
