Exclusive Opening: Washington D.C. Highly Desirable Private Equity Practice
An AmLaw 50 international law firm has asked G&S to exclusively assist in its unpublished efforts to add a junior to mid-level Private Equity or M&A associate to its nationally ranked Washington D.C. practice.
After speaking to the two key partners (including the firm’s Managing Partner), we believe this position is particularly attractive for the following reasons:
- Quality and Type of Work: This is one of the very few full-service private equity practices in Washington, D.C. The firm focuses on very sophisticated middle-market deals that allow for associates to work the entire deal, not just a portion. In fact some of the work is with smaller portfolio companies so associates can act as outside general counsels. The work is diverse and varies from buyouts to late stage growth equity to broad based private liquidity programs. If you desire a wider range of work and responsibility, this firm could be attractive.
- Superior Environment: This group’s culture is top rate. I have placed several associates in the group who have enjoyed the firm and have been very successful. The partners, a couple of which I have known personally for over two decades, are gregarious and personable. They are not micro-managers and do not create fiefdoms. This firm provides a great option for any associate struggling with culture issues at their firm.
- Team Orientation: Partners are compensated very well for sharing their work. For example, junior partners are immediately plugged into current client relationships so they can control their own business. For associates, this adds to the excellent culture as described above.
- Ability to Make Counsel and Partner: The group has a proven track record advancing associates. It is arguably the group with the highest profile within the firm and the expectation is that you have a fantastic shot of making partner if that is a goal of yours. Alternatively, many associates have gone in-house to firm clients and maintain a great relationship with their former supervisors.
*** This firm pays top of the market base compensation and bonuses.
