Counsel, Global Trade Compliance


Rapidly expanding global government services contractor with 5,000 employees working on 120+ project sites across five continents, seeks to hire its first Counsel for Global Trade Compliance.  The company provides a diverse range of vital services to defense, aerospace, national security, and intelligence partners for many of the world’s most critical missions. This newly created role will report directly to the General Counsel and stems from expansion of the company’s international activities. You will advise the business on global regulatory matters including export controls, data privacy, and information security.


Primary responsibilities include: Maintaining the Company’s global trade compliance program (e.g., developing and maintaining policies and procedures, conducting internal investigations, responding to government inquiries, and developing and delivering training programs to all levels of the organization); serving as a company Empowered Official, responsible for management and maintenance of export compliance policies and procedures in accordance with applicable laws and regulations; assessing new business opportunities and determining global trade compliance requirements; drafting, submitting and managing export authorizations including export licenses, technical assistance agreements, and exemptions/exceptions; and maintaining the Company’s global data privacy program to address emerging developments in global privacy law and ensuring compliance with data privacy and information security laws.


Qualified candidates will have 7+ years of international trade experience advising clients on EAR, ITAR and data privacy and information security compliance matters. Familiarity with government programs such as SNAP-R, ACE (AES), DECCS and export licensing databases is ideal. Must have experience collaborating with international teams across various time zones in a cross functional environment. Open to candidates coming from a law firm, government or in-house practice setting, but tenure with a defense contractor or in the government services industry is highly desired. Must have the ability to obtain a security clearance.


Attorneys work predictable and reasonable hours (8-5) with the ability to telecommute 3 days a week once the office reopens. Terrific opportunity to become the “go-to” trade counsel at a growing global company.
